What are the advantages of doing research over course-work in MSc Project Management?

I have just finished my BSc Construction Management and i want to proceed with MSc in Project Management. So i need to know which is of better advantage between research and course-work.

I look at it this way.  Course work builds your knowledge base through lectures, homework, and other methods. You are consuming facts for the most part and learning how to apply them.  Research also builds your knowledge base, but it also stimulates an ability to think independently and solve problems.  You are learning because you want to (or at least I hope so), rather than because you had to take a course in a catalog.

So ideally, your course work in the MSc program includes some of both, even if it is research within a specific course.  I found that my MBA really expanded the way I see the world and look at challenges.
