Project sponsor vs project manager

Question

I would like someone who's one of the more experienced project managers to compare and contrast the roles of the project sponsor and the project manager.

Now I know what each one of them does, so I don't want a listing of their roles and responsibilities. I just want a comparison between the roles, as well as a comparison between the impact of each one of them on the project and the project team.
