What role do ethics and trust play in project management?

What is the role of both ethics and trust when it comes to project management? What I mean by my question is how do these things affect the planning and the execution process of the project, and to what extent?

I'd suggest reading Covey's "The Speed of Trust".  When people trust each other, the transactions are more transparent and are accomplished more quickly.  This is the same as in any aspect of business.  The book cites examples where some companies take months and years to do an M&A while Warren Buffet, who only does business with those he trusts, has been known to complete similar transactions in a matter of weeks.
