Rolling wave planning example

votes
I am currently taking a project management course and the teacher yesterday talked about a planning method called rolling wave. I'm not sure I have fully grasped the concept. As such, I would like someone to provide me with an example of rolling wave planning, and (hopefully) explain the concept to me in very simple terms (I'm not a project manager yet, so take it easy on me).
